Frequently Asked Questions

What should my son expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?

Work will be set on Google classroom by your child’s subject teachers. If requested Your child will receive a work pack in the post from his teachers.  The work will be linked to our normal school curriculum.

Following the first few days of remote education, will my son be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?

As far as possible we will teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school. For some practical subjects it may be necessary to make some adjustments.

How long can I expect work set by the school to take my son each day?

Pupils not attending will be invited to a live English and Maths lesson on Google Classroom daily, each lasting 45 minutes. In addition, work for all lessons they would normally attend on that day will be set in Google Classroom. This work may take between 2-3 hours to complete independently.

How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?

Your son will have a school Gmail account that they will use to log in to access all the work and lessons. An invitation to the daily lessons will be emailed to your son’s account along with notifications of work set by teachers.  Your son’s form tutor will be able to give you log in details if they have been forgotten.

If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?

We distributed Chromebook devices in the summer term to pupils we had identified as struggling to access digital or online teaching. We are currently distributing additional devices. If your son does not have regular daily access to a tablet, laptop or similar device please let their form tutor know.

How will my child be taught remotely?

Classwork will be set and feedback given through Google Classroom. Your son will be able to ask for help or ask questions about the work set and teachers will respond with support. Daily live English and Math's lessons will also take place in the Google Classroom. Your son will also be invited to a mentor group meeting every Friday morning to give the opportunity to stay in contact with their tutor team and group.

What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?

Your support is crucial in ensuring the boys complete the work given. You will still receive your weekly call from your son’s form tutor. In these calls you can discuss any issues you may have or difficulties you are experiencing in supporting your son’s engagement. If work packs have been requested the form tutor team will arrange for completed work to be marked and feedback provided.

How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?

Subject teachers are recording how well each pupil is engaging with live lessons and remote learning activities daily. You will receive daily parent mail updating you on your son’s engagement. In addition, your son’s form tutor will be regularly monitoring how well they are doing and update you in their weekly call.

How will you assess my child’s work and progress?

Your son's completed work will form part of the normal teacher's assessment process.
